  3. Elf Owl Facts Description Elf Owls are the smallest owl found in North America. The wing span is about 14 in. The feathers are very puffy giving it a swollen sight. The feathers colors are light brown with a darker pattern on the belly. Distribution Elf Owls live in hot desert and some times found in woodland forest regions. They make their homes in mountain ranges, canyons, and ravines. They also live in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and California. Food Elf Owls eat mostly smallbirds and lizards. And they eat insects like crickets, scorpions, moths, centipedes, and beetles. Behavior Elf Owls make sounds like squeaks that are high pitched.
