  3. 1. Libya Rally 2010 • A cross country rally • A low / fair price • A different set of values • Mainly a race, but also 2 other options

Libya Rally 2010 3 categories: • Category 1: The rally (race / chrono / competition) • Category 2: The adventure raid (no chrono / same roadbooks / navigation) • Category 3: The discovery class (desert driving school) • For motorbikes - ran by Frans Verhoeven • For cars - ran by Rashad Faraj

  7. 3. the route • About 2000 KM • 7 days of intensive driving • If we say desert driving, we mean desert driving • Many dunes, but also canyons, oasis, salt lakes, etc.

  8. 3. the route: day by day Day 1: Sebha - Tkerkiba : 185 KM Day 2: Mandara Lakes: 240 KM Day 3: Awbari to Al Awaynat 320 KM Day 4: Akacus Mountains 200 KM Day 5: the Murzuq marathon 450 KM Day 6: the incredible Awbari Loop 270 KM Day 7: the glorious return to Sebha 170 KM TOTAL DISTANCE: 1835 KM Only 8% liaison

  20. 5. vehicle preparation: part 1 • Roll bars / Special seatbelts / helmets (only in race category) • Protective gear and helmets in all categories (for quads/motorbikes) • Sand ladders / shovels / tools / jack / rope / safety triangle / yellow jackets • Fuel autonomy: 600 km (cars/trucks) & 150 km (motorbike/quads) • Drinking water: minimum 5 liters (quads/bike), 10 liters (car/truck) • Fire extinguisher (car & trucks)

  21. 5. vehicle preparation: part 2 • Tripmaster & Garmin GPS (+ your own USB connection cable) • Road book roller (for quads & motorbikes) • Tripy (black box) for tracking system & speed control measurement • Iridium pre-programmed satellite phone • First aid kit (including sun cream & headache tablets) • 3 Fire flares + 1 smoke bomb (can be bought in camp in Libya / order!) • Emergency meal, compass, survival blanket, lighter, sunglasses, knife, torch, etc.

What else to bring? • Camping gear: tent, thick sleeping bag, inflatable mattress • Passport, plane ticket, visa or AMEX card, money (euro & dinars) • Toiletries: towel, toothbrush, camp shower, toilet paper, wet wipes • Kitchen equipment: plate, cup, cutlery • Big sweater or jacket / decent shoes • Sunglasses / skiing goggles • Head torch • Laptop (intranet)

  24. 7. transport • Option 1: you fly to Libya(transport vehicle via organisation) • Insured transport of vehicles from Belgium (Maldegem) to Sebha • Customs & border formalities taken care of by organisation • You buy your own ticket to Tripoli, the Libyan capital (via Afriqiyah at 399€) • We organise your inland flight Tripoli-Sebha-Tripoli (charter / 120€) • Option 2: you drive to Libyain your own vehicle • We all meet up in the port of Genova • We drive together to the south of Libya

  25. 7. transport All vehicles should be deliverd on Saturday, 27th February at the following address: Eurocar Zoetaert Oude Kasteeldreef 9990 Maldegem 0032 50/71 53 260 (ask for Werner) Documents: Ownership document, insurance document, procuration Don’t forget: 4 decent straps per vehicle (car ≠ bike or quad)

Transport (self driving) • Price based on 2 people, 1 car (max 2m high), a cabin of 2 persons with private shower and toilet, 3 meals included (approximately 1000€) • CTN – ferry: Payment with visa-card to CTN-brussels from 15th febuary onwards. • Group ticket – represenative LR: Gert • Appointment in Genova: 6th March at 12.00 (noon) (GPS) • Departure boat at 16.00h – 24h crossing • Border formalities on boat and in group

Transport (self driving, part 2) • Arrival in Tunis / registration vehicle & customs • 540 km drive to the border (free camping at night) • At 7AM: crossing the Ras Ajdir border in convoy • 500 km drive to Gariyat (free camping at night) • On 9th March (after 400 km drive) we arrive in the Sebha bivouac at noon • Return trip: Ferry Tunis-Genova: Friday 19th

Transport: Flying to Africa • By mail you’ll receive your visa (2 days before departure) • Flight Afriqiyah 12.30h on 8th March (bring visa print) • In Tripoli: get visa stamp in your passport in the airport • Get your luggage and our representative will pick you up • Around 18.00h: new check-in for Sebha (change some money / snack) • At 20.00h: flight to Sebha / 21.00h: arrival on the bivouac • We’ll book automatically your internal flight. Payment (120€) on the 9th March during the administrative checks.

Fuel provisioning • In bivouac: diesel & petrol • On the race track: only petrol • Fuel provisioning on the track: every 130 km • Required autonomy: 150l for quads/bikes; 600l for cars • Sale of fuel tickets in bivouac per 5 liter (euro’s only) • Add an extra fuel-filter on your vehicle (quads/ bikes)
