Susie has worked at information booths, selling tickets, passing out flyers, serving food, conducting silent auctions or any other activity where volunteers can assist. Susie has volunteered since may 1988 and says she “loves everything about volunteering.” She adds, “if I can help someone, I help myself many, many times over!” She is truly an asset to our volunteer program and deserves to be recognized and commended for her fantastic community service.

Ruth Dorn has been a volunteer with the Foster Youth Mentor Program since 1994. Ruth became a mentor to Jacob, age 8 in December 1994. Ruth has been the single constant and stabilizing force in Jacob’s young life. He has grown to depend upon their special relationship and, most importantly, to know the value of a true friendship.

Ruth has also donated free massage certificates as door prizes and donates her artistry talents at the annual foster family picnics. Children’s Services is grateful to Ruth for the many, many ways she gives to others.

SHERRI HENSLEE

Public Defender

STEVEN J. CARROL, Public Defender

KELLY DITTMAN

Volunteer Coordinator

In less than three months and with very little training, Sherri devised a schedule whereby she has been able to re-shelve 50 to 100 files per day. She files newly closed files while checking previously shelved files for correct numerical sequence, adjusting them on the shelves for easy accessibility.

Sherri has had a direct and positive impact on our branch office. Thanks to her, our files are well maintained and accessible - a necessary ingredient of our work for the attorneys. We consider it an honor to be able to nominate her for Volunteer of the Year.

BERNIE DE SELM

JOHN SNYDER, Acting Director

NIELSINE ARCHIBALD

Bernie De Selm has volunteered more than 544 hours over the past 20 weeks to the Department of Public Works. After retiring from the Department of Public Works with 32 years of service, Bernie volunteered on his own to update the Land Development Map Processing Manual. It was a critical project; Bernie recognized the need and responded to it. The manual will benefit County staff, private companies and individuals preparing maps.

We are pleased to salute Bernie De Selm's dedication to the Department of Public Works and to the County of San Diego.
