  2. NARA provides direction, guidance, and assistance to all U.S. Federal government agencies in managing their records throughout their lifecycle preserves records with “enduring” value in the National Archives Federal Records and National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)

  3. Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC): Origins and Purpose • The Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) is an interagency committee that promotes the coordinated development, use, sharing, and dissemination of geospatial data on a national basis. • The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) established the FGDC in 1990 and rechartered the committee in its August 2002 revision of Circular A-16, "Coordination of Geographic Information and Related Spatial Data Activities."

  4. Historical Data Working Group of the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) • promotes the awareness of the historical dimension to geospatial data which have been financed in whole or part by U.S. Federal Government funds. • facilitates maintaining historically valuable geospatial data and making it available to future generations.

  5. Memorandum of Understanding: NARA and Department of the Interior as GOS Managing Partner • NARA signed agreement in the spring of 2006 • Data Steward for the Historical Collections Community • NWME, Policy and Standards, and Web staff created its site on the Historical Collections Community

  6. Historical Collections Community on Geospatial One Stop (GOS) • NWME’s Geospatial Holdings: • Census Administrative Boundary Files, 1980-2000 • Fish and Wildlife’s Wetlands Inventory and Wildlife Refuges Files • Forest Service’s Fire Management Maps • BLM Nevada and Idaho Wilderness, Conservation Area Files • NGA World Ports file • http://gos2.geodata.gov/wps/portal/gos

  7. Geospatial Line of Business: Lifecycle Working Group • Identifying data sets for the National Geospatial Dataset Assets (NGDA) • Identifying management practices in each of the areas of the dataset lifecycle
