  3. Cattle The term cattle wasoriginallyused to includeallclassesof live stock but itisrestricted to oxennow. Domesticated cattle are known to haveexisted in Babylon nearly 5000 B.C.. Theearliestknowndomesticated type found in Europewasprobably introducedfromAsia. Breeding and rearing cattle Theageatwhichheifersshouldfirstbemateddepends on theirbreed, on theirindividualcharacteristics and on thesystemoffeeding and general management to whichtheyhavebeensubjectedduringtheearlier part oftheirlife. Cows are servedeithernaturally by thebull, or, commonly, by artificial insemination. The semen isdilutedwith a nutrientsolution and keptatanappropriate lowtemperatureforseveraldaysorunderdeep-freezeconditions….
