REPORTING Mission:The Communications Office is a creative group within EETD supporting the Division’s work and communicating research results to the scientific community and the public. REPORTING Responsibilities by Staff Member • Allan Chen—Leader, Media Relations: news media contact, writes science articles, edits EETD newsletter • Anthony Ma—Art Director: graphic design of websites; designs, oversees production of posters, brochures, other print • Sondra Jarvis—Webmaster: designs and implements structure and navigation of websites, troubleshooter • Eve Edelson—System Administrator: maintain Division servers;provides database, PHP, and Web 2.0 software expertise • JoAnne Lambert—visitor planning; tradeshow logistics; seminar and A-V assistance

REPORTING Core Division Communications Office Responsibilities Include: • Strategic communications planning • Maintain Division website (public and Intranet) • Graphics and publications—e.g. Division brochure, newsletter • Provide media relations/ public information services • Major award nominations—e.g. R&D 100 application • Training and assistance in web and graphics software

REPORTING Communications Office Percentage of Total Cost Since FY2000, the Communications Office net cost to the Division (after recharge activities) has represented approximately 1.1% of total EETD expenditures. Communications Office recharge percentage of total costs has ranged from 10% to 21%.

REPORTING Lab-wide Strategic Communications Plan in Progress • First comprehensive Lab-wide plan since the early 90s • Allan Chen and Evan Mills serving as EETD members of a 20-person Lab-wide committee • Report will make recommendations for five target audiences —Greater reliance on employees as communications assets —More use of Web 2.0 technologies • Submission to Lab leadership expected later this summer
