THE STUDIES TO STOP AND PREVENT VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS FOR THE FIRST TERM IN 2010-2011 • At schools ,”studentcouncils” havebeenformed in ordertobring in thedemocracyconsciousness . • Ourdirectorate is conductingsomestudiessuch as establishingtheculture of democracy at schoolswiththecontractsamongthestudent-family-school,publisizingtheschoolwiththewholeopportunityincludingtheexpectations of thestudentsandthefamiliesintothesystem. • TheGuidanceUnits at schoolsaremotivatedtoworkeffectively. • 35 students in the 10th yearchosenfromeachschoolweregiven a seminar “Towardstheknowledgeandsuccess” by Sait Gürsoytheeducationexpert on guidance . • Theseminarcalled “New Approaches in theEducationandTeaching” wasgiventotheallschoolheadmastersandtheco-headmasters in Burdur by Ömer Balıbey-The General Principal of TeacherTraining at MEB and Ali Bayram –theeducatorandtheauthor.

  8. 35 studentschosenfromeachsecondaryeducationschoolandtheirparentsweregiven a seminarabout “the morale andthemotivation in thesuccess of student”, “familyandyoutheducation” by Halit Ertuğrul. • ThePresidency of HumanRights at Burdur Governorconducted a seminarcalled “HumanRights” for 10 studentschosen in 7.8.yearfromtheprimaryschools.

SAMPLE PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED AT SCHOOLS ABOUT STOPPING THE VIOLENCE • Theproject “Life is sharing” at Vali Dr Sülayman Oğuz PrimarySchool • “Guidance is thekey of success” at Yahya Kemal Beyatlı PrimarySchool. • “I can gethelpfrommyGuidanceteachereverywhereandeverytime.” at Şeker PrimarySchool.

THE DISCIPLINARY EVENTS DISCUSSED IN THE CENTRAL DISCIPLINE COMMITTEE • In 2010-2011 EducationalYear ,3 disciplinaryeventshavebeendiscussed in thecommittee.Theseeventsarelikethese - causingfight at school,beingincluded in injury, usingscathingandfataltoolsanditemsandcausingsipiritualandmaterialharms. Thesethreestudentsgotdisciplinepunishmentssuch as beingdismissedout of formaleducation,censurepunishment,being sent awayfromschoolwith a leavingcertificate. • Inthedistricts, therearen’tanydisciplinaryeventsdiscussed in thecommittee.

THE DISCIPLINARY EVENTS DISCUSSED IN THE PRESIDENCY OF EDUCATION INSPECTORS • In 2010-2011 educationalyear ,someinvestigationswereopenedfor 5 teachers,2 co-headmasters,1 doormanbecause of theviolencetostudents.3 investigationsarestillgoing on and 5 investigationshavebeencompleted.Wagedefletionfor 1 day ,formalnoticeandstoppingthe pay levelwerethepunishmentsgiventothesepeople.

THE EVENTS GIVEN THE CONSULTANT COUNSELLING BY THE JUDICIAL AUTHORITIES • Theconsultantcounselling has been put in actionfor 11 studentsabouttheoffensessuch as maliciousinjury,givingharmtopropertiesandburglary. • Theconsultantcounsellingaccordingtotherelevantlaw is giventothestudentsbytheStudent Advisor. • TheStudentAdvisorsmeetthestudentsandtheirfamiliesanddeclarethereportsaboutthestudenttothecourt.

  13. THE STUDIES CARRIED OUT BY THE COUNSELLING GUIDANCE CENTER • At schools not havinggudiancecounselor,seminars on communication in family,theimportance of parents’ positiveattitudestowardsstudentswereconductedwiththeparticipation of parents.

THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT AT SCHOOLS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ACTION PLAN • Thebasketballtournamentwasconductedamongtheclasses.Seminars on examanxiety,puberty,communicationconflictsandthesolutions,angermanagement, thenegativeeffects of stressandthewaystocopewithstresswereconductedwiththeparticipation of thestudents. • Theinformationmeetingwasconductedforthefamiliesaboutthetopicssuch as thenegativeeffects of internet cafeandothergamecenters,supportingthestudentswiththesocial,culturalandsportiveactivitiesandthecharacteristics of pubertyperiod.

THE DECISIONS TAKEN IN THE MEETING OF THE PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL • 1- Takingthenecessaryprecautionsabout not havinganyfilms,gamesincludingviolence in the ICT labs at schools • 2-Raisingthenumbers of thesportiveandculturalactivitieswhichhavetheeffective role in preventingtheviolence at schoolsandgivingtheeffective role tothePhysicalEducationTeachers in planningthesportiveactivities. • 3-Raisingthenumbers of thelicensedsports -students at schools • 4-Raisingthenumbers of theseminarsrelatedtopreventingtheviolence at schoolsandencouragingtheGuidanceCounsellorstoworkmoreeffectively.

Thepopulation of thecity is 257.000 accordingtotheresults of thepopulationcensuspreparedbytheinput data of TurkishStatisticalInstitute in 2008.Townpopulationcovers 59 % of the total population.Ruralpopulationcovers 41 % of the total population.Approximately,oneout of fivepeople is included in education.

Themostimportantcharacteristic of theadolessenceperiod is thepassion of excitementand adrenaline.Iftheteenagerscannotfindtheactivitiestodechargethisenergy,theymaydisplayharmfulbehavioursforthemselvesandthesociety.Becauseaggressivenessfeedsitselfwiththepassion of excitement.One of themostimportantwaystopreventteenagersfromtheharmfullbehavioursandtheviolence is sportiveandculturalactivities.Thus,in Burdur a greatattention is paidfortheseactivities.Now,let’sseethenumbers of thesportiveandsocialactivities;

  26. Thenumber of thestudentsattendingtheactivities in 2009-2010 educationalyear • Inthefourbigorganisationsheld in Burdur (3 of them is NationalFestivalsandone of them is the Folk DanceContestconductedthroughoutthecity),therewere 56 communityand 851 studentsjoinedtheseactivities.

Whethertheaggressivebehaviourwhich is shown as theresource of theviolenceeventsexists in thenature of thehuman,manystudiesshowthat how this can be revealed is learnedlater.Andthisshowsthatallthesedisplayedbehavioursaregainedbythechild’sfamily,society,friendsandthemedia.Itcertainly can be saidthattheexplanationstyle of films,soapoperas,newspapersandthenewshave a bigeffect on this.Therapiddevelopment of the internet andthecommunicationtechnologieshavebeenaddedtothisforthelast 10 years. Ifwehave a look at theschools in ourcontrolarea;

  32. Allthecomputers in the ICT roomsareconnectedtothe internet and it is impossibleforstudentstoreachthe web sitesincludingviolenceandbeingnegativeeffects on children’semotionsandpsycologythankstothepatnershipbetweenNationalEducationMinistryand Internet Providing Service(Telekom).

  33. But in theareasout of theschoolthestudentsareunderthecontrol of thefamilies.webelievethatmakingstudentsstay in thearea of theschoolsmaykeepthestudentsawayfromthebadinteractionwiththeareasout of school.So, whatshouldwedo?ıt is necessarytomaketheschoolsprettier.

  34. Inadditiontothese;schoolsshould be physicallyandpsycologicallysecureandawayfromtheseviolentbehaviours in ordertomaintaintheeducationalactivities at school.Becauseanysafetyanxietyandthe idea of being hurt willdecreasetheperformance of theteachersandthestudentsseriously.

Thetargetsour Project willtrytofindthesolutions fora re theproblemsmentionedabove.Whiledoingthese ,weaimtoseethebestpractiseswhichthecoordinatoreducationauthoritiesandtheschoolpartners of the Project havedevelopedandalsotoacquirethemostapplicable of them. Furthermore;it is aimedthatthisinterectionshould be disseminated not only in the partner schools in Timisand Burdur but also in theallschoolsallaround Burdur andTimis.That’swhymanyschoolsout of the partner schools in bothcitiessupporttheactivities of this Project. • The total accomplishmentperiod of the Project is 24 monthsandso far the nine months of the Project havebeencompleted.

Now,thereare 82 localprojectsbeingconducted in ourschools.Youwillseesome of theseprojects in theschoolsyouwillvisit.Consequently,everyongoing Project is toincreasethe total quality of school-environment-family-studentandsociety.Thesekinds of projectswillhelptheviolencedisappearfromtheenvironments of theschool.

  42. There is an examwhich is calledSBSimplementedthroughoutthecountryforthestudentstocontinuetheadvancedqualitylevel of secondaryeducation.Asyouseefromthetable,Burdur has beenthefirstforthelastfouryears.
