Town History. Chancellor began in 1894 and was named for the Chancellor von Bismark of Germany. . Railroad. The railroad depot and four elevators were located in the corner of section 21on land originally filed by John Q. Smith in 1878. The stockyards and Railroad Avenue (now Hwy. 44) and the bulk of the town located on section 28 on land filed by George S. Neeman, year unknown, for a tree claim. .
