  1. A sense of environment Abi Fricke

  2. HOW WAS YOUR COUNTY SETTLED? • The settlement of Lancaster county was an experiment to test the knowledge of the government, and to build up political common sense. The experiment had a lot of success so they established Lancaster county on May 10th 1729. What town, borough, or village do you reside in? • The town that I live in is Bowmansville Pennsylvania, I don’t live right inside of Bowmansville but I live in the general area of it.

  3. There are many things I love about the environment where I live, like: • I love that I don’t live in a busy town where there are cars and busy streets, I love that I can walk around my neighborhood without it being so busy like a place like New York City. • I love that I live a couple minutes away from a big patch of woods, where I can go hunting with my Father. • 1 other thing that I love is that I can sit out on my deck on a nice summer evening and listen to the world around me. Like the birds chirping, and the leaves crackling! Its very peaceful and that’s what makes me love the environment of Bowmansville so much! • The things I dislike about the environment where I live are very slim…but some are: • I don’t like that my house is not right next to the woods so I cant just go take a walk, I would have to drive a little to go. • I don’t like how I don’t see tons of wildlife in my back yard! It would be cool to see deer walk in my yard, but there’s so many houses around so those kinds of animals don’t stroll in my yard.

  4. Weather patters in Bowmansville: • In the Winter in Bowmansville it is very brisk and cold, we get snow every once in a while. And some winters we get a lot of snow! • In the Spring in Bowmansville it is very chilly towards the beginning of the season, but throughout spring it gets hot. We get spring showers and a rumble of thunder here and there! • In the summer in Bowmansville it is HOT. Very hot and we get rain and thunderstorms maybe 2 times a week! It is very humid and sticky in the summer. • In the fall it is hot towards the beginning, then it starts getting chilly. We get rain and some thunderstorms in the fall.

  5. What watershed do you reside it: • I live in the Susquehanna River Basin and the water runoff water runs into the Chesapeake Bay. The runoff water comes from rain, which runs off into the Chesapeake Bay. • We humans do many things to benefit the water in our water shed. For example: • We make dams to prevent floods, dams hold the water back in the river so that it can’t go into the town and flood all the homes, and buildings. • Humans also • With the good things we do to help our watershed, comes bad things also like: • Fertilizing crops so when it comes time for the rain to come down and run off into the Bay, the water is polluted in the river. • Also humans use irrigation to feed their flowers water, and to get that water they take it out of rivers which lowers the water level and takes homes and habitats away from animals.

  6. 5 common native plants: • Native plants to Pennsylvania are apple trees, oak trees, dandelions, corn, and tobacco! • 3 common birds: • 3 common birds are turkey, hawk, and a vulture. • 3 common mammals: • 3 common mammals in PA are bunnies, squirrels, and deer. • Energy Sources: • My houses energy comes from electrical energy, and gas under the ground. • What is an environmental problem?: • An environmental problem is that farmers are spreading fertilizer that pollutes the water basin we live in.

  7. 2 interesting facts about your environment: • In my environment there are very few eagles, they are building their population but they are around and seeing one is a very exciting thing. • In my environment we can grow bamboo although bamboo is often grown in Southeast Asia.

  8. HOME LIFE: • The water that I use in my house comes on a well, we have a well in our backyard that pumps water out of the ground and brings it through appliances throughout our house. • On every Tuesday morning my family puts out the trash and the recycling to put out for the trash guys to pick up on Wednesday morning . The trash trucks take it to reams disposal an it gets dumped into a land fill. The recycling trucks take the recycling to their company for it to reused into other things. • The sewage in my house goes to a treatment plant where they clean the water and it gets used again.

  9. HABITATS OUTSIDE OF MY HOUSE: • One habitat outside of my house is a coniferous forest. In the woods, deer and birds, rabbits, squirrels and all types of animals live and make their home in. They get their food from berries off the trees, or acorns falling off the trees. They often have some streams going through the trees so they can get some water. • Another habitat outside my house is the mud and ground! Worms, snails, and ants all live in the ground with many more creatures. They dig tunnels through the mud and stay snug in the mug. They eat the soil and drink water out of the ground. • One last habitat outside of my house is the animals that live up top in the trees. Like birds, bats, squirrels. They don’t just live in the tops but they fly around, except for the squirrels. The birds eat seed in the ground and worms. They make their nests up top in the trees, and have their young.

  10. Some foods that I eat on a regular basis are as follows: • Watermelon where we get from our local fruit stand which they grow on the owners farm, • strawberries where we used to get from the local fruit stand but not after about July because they stop growing in Lancaster so we get them from the grocery store which they get them from other state sin the country, • Apple juice- made all over the U.S • English muffins-made in China • Welches gummies-Comes from factories all over the U.S

  12. Some things that I do that are environmentally friendly are: • Recycling • Picking up trash found on the ground • Some things that I do that are NOT environmentally friendly: • Sometimes I don’t put things that could be recycled into the recycling bin. And to fix that I would just have to start recycling those things. • I don’t always reuse my water bottles, I just get a new one every time I want some water.
