  5. What is an interview? Important step in the hiring process Chance to meet Mutual exchange of information

  6. What is the purpose? For the interviewer: • Can the candidate do the job? • Will the candidate fit in? • Is this the best candidate for the position?

  7. What is the purpose? For the interviewee: • Do I want the job? • Can I do this job? • Does this job offer me the opportunities I want for advancement or experience?

  8. To succeed in interviews Soft skills are important You are the expert on you Both parties are being interviewed How you do things demonstrates your character First impressions are important They already are interested in you

  10. Before an interview Research the organization Review the job description Know yourself - prepare to support experience/skills with examples Practice Prepare questions to ask them Dress for success

  11. What do I ask them? Ask questions that are meaningful & impactful • Can you describe a typical day/week for this position? • What would a successful first year in the position look like? • What is the number one priority of the person who accepts this job? • How would you describe the work culture? What type of people tend to thrive in this environment?

  14. During an interview Create great first impressions Be mindful of body language Answer and ask questions Show enthusiasm and interest Scent free What not to bring • Cell phone • Drinks • Friends

  16. From the employers perspective… It’s OK to be nervous Attitude & GPA Hollow or surface answers It’s not really about getting from A to B, it is about HOW you get from A to B Use examples from different areas Don’t be afraid of silence
