Service Area • Adult Central Intake refers to services within the Metro Region Only • St. John’s, Mount Pearl, Torbay, Pouch Cove, Flatrock, Bell Island, Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s, Paradise, CBS (to Holyrood which has its own office,) and the Southern Shore (ending at Trepassey) . • Clients who reside outside these areas will need to be referred to their closest MH & A Office

Assessment • The majority of assessments are pre booked and completed over the telephone (taking approximately 45 minutes.) • In extenuating circumstances an assessment can be completed in person. • The assessments are electronic and completed in MediTech. • Clients must be agreeable to the assessment and referral to the recommended service. • Clients who are referred for more than one individual counselling type service would only be referred to one program. • Adult Central Intake does not refer to any program that offers a specific Anger Management Program/Group. If this is the specific service request, please contact RUAH regarding their group offerings.

Community Mental Health and Addictions Teams • Services offered by the teams are based on a stepped care service delivery model and include single session information based groups, skills based groups, intensive group therapy, and individual services. • These services include: • -Goal Directed, focused individual mental health counselling services • (provided by OT, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, • and Social Work) • -Addictions counselling, both individual and group • -Strengths Team, goal directed case management services • -Occupational Therapy • -Recreational Therapy • -Couples/Family Counselling related to a mental health issue

Traumatic Stress Services • The Traumatic Stress Service provides individual and group counselling services to clients who have experienced significant trauma. • The program provides training/education to health care providers in a trauma informed approach to mental health service delivery. • This program also offers consultation on trauma specific interventions. • As this is a specialized service, a referral from a physician or health professional is required.

CAST: (Concurrent, Addictions, Specialized Treatment) Services • Provides outpatient, community-based counseling services for individuals who have both high mental health and high addictions needs. • Provides services to individuals who are admitted to the Waterford Hospital and aftercare services for individuals who have completed residential addictions treatment. • CAST, which is staffed by a dedicated and specialized team, is designed to provide integrated care for clients. Services may include individual, couple, family, and/or group therapy. • Recovery-focused goals for treatment may include increasing knowledge about concurrent disorders, taking a harm-reduction approach to substance use, receiving help for mental health issues, and learning more adaptive ways of coping.

Outpatient Psychiatry • ACI accepts referrals from General Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners for Outpatient Psychiatry. • ACI maintains the waitlist for Outpatient Psychiatry services within the Eastern Health MH&A Program. • Does not complete assessments for the purpose of CSSD, parental capacity assessments or court proceedings.

Waitlist Management • Once ACI’s assessment is completed and referral is made to a clinical program, it is the program’s responsibility to handle inquiries about waitlist status and program information. • If there is a change in a client’s situation while waiting for service, the client is directed to contact ACI to complete a reassessment.

  16. Not a Crisis Line! • Any referral appearing to urgent will be contacted to complete an assessment ASAP. • ACI will not replace the Mental Health Crisis Line, Mobile Crisis Response Team or any other Emergency Service. • Additional options are provided to clients while they await service. These include the CHANNAL Warm Line, Bridge the GApp, RUAH Counselling Center, etc.
