  5. Vestments • Not just an excuse for the priest to ‘dress nice’ • Indicates the separation of the person from the role • Priest stands ‘in vicare Christo’ – in the place of Christ, as an ikon of the Lord • Which is why I am called “Father”

  6. Vestments • Cassock • Middle Eastern standard dress • Alb • White garment symbolising purity • Stole • Badge of authority taken from Roman Magistrates • Chasuble • Everyday outer garment adapted over centuries • Cope • Processional Garment

  7. Liturgical Colours • Green • Ordinary Time • Red • Martyrs, Good Friday, Pentecost • Purple • Advent, Lent • White / Gold • Easter, Christmas, Saints, Our Lady, Eucharistic Devotions • Black • Funerals and Requiems
