Homestay Program • What is the Homestay program? • The Red Cross Homestay program supports families and individuals at risk of homelessness to maintain independent housing or gain access to long term sustainable housing, so they can have the stability needed to experience wellbeing, dignity and security. By working as an early intervention service with those at risk of homelessness we can address the drivers of homelessness and prevent people from becoming homeless. • Our approach is based on: • Tailored support to meet the stated needs of the person • Collaboration with housing providers, tenancy advice services, specialist services and relevant government agencies • A strengths-base model that understands clients have the capacity to overcome adversity with support from skilled case managers • How is the program delivered? • The Homestay program is provided by professional staff who visit people as required in their own homes or other community locations. Case Managers provide intensive case management to maintain current independent housing or assist clients to access long term sustainable housing. • Case Managersengage with people at risk of homelessness, assisting them to stabilise their situation and support them to address the underlying causes such as low income, household management, budgeting and interpersonal relationships. Case Managers will also provide information and practical support to assist people develop their tenancy sustainment skills and assist people to access other specialist services in their local communities. • How can I access the program? • Participation in the program is entirely voluntary. People at risk of homelessness can refer themselves or be referred by another agency.
