  2. Justified by Faith (Rom. 5:1-2) Peace – Grace – Hope • What is your hope based upon? • I am religious (Jas. 1:26-27) • I “go to church” • My parents are religious • I know religious people • My religious tradition (Lk. 3:7-9) • You can be religious and be lost!

  3. Saul: Lost Religious Zealot Acts 22:3-4; Gal. 1:13-14 • Religious zeal without knowledge will not save, Acts 22:3; Gal. 1:14; Rom. 10:1-3 • A good conscience does not save you, Acts 23:1; 26:9 (1 Tim. 1:13) • Remedy: Zeal in truth, Acts 22:16; Phil. 3:4-8 (Rom. 10:3)

  4. Cornelius: Lost Moral Man Acts 10:1-2, 22; 11:14 • Outstanding character • Morality cannot remove sin • It is necessary(Eph. 5:3-11; 1 Pet. 2:11-12) • Remedy: Obey gospel and live morally, Acts 10:43, 33-35, 48; 11:14, 18 • Gospel saves the moral person through faith (Acts 15:9)

Rich Young Ruler: Lost without Total Devotion, Matt. 19:16-22 • Mastered doing, but not being • Eternal life is not earned through obedience(Rom. 3:20; Lk. 17:10) • Yet, w/o obedience, no saving faith(Heb. 5:8-9) • Completely surrender heart(Gal. 2:20) • Remedy: Put Jesus first & obey Him in all things, 19:21; Lk. 9:23; 14:33

Pharisees: Deceived in Self-Righteous Hypocrisy, Luke 18:9-14 • Warning, Matt. 23:1-12 • Do not say, but not do (3) • Do not bind traditions (4) • Do not act to be seen (5) • Do not seek honor (6-10) • Service defines greatness (11) • Do not exalt self (12) • Remedy: Humility, 23:12; Jas. 4:6-10; Luke 18:14

  7. Religious and Lost! • We must have… • Zeal like Saul • Morality like Cornelius • Obedient devotion (young ruler) • Humility before God and men (unlike the Pharisees) -Jesus will save you, Acts 4:12 -Be zealous & repent, Rev. 3:19 -Be faithful to death, Rev. 2:10
