MarCoast objectives • MarCoast key objectives • Set up a service network • Deliver a consistent portfolio of marine and coastal services at European scale • Improve validation, qualification, and acceptance of service capabilities • Reach sustainability in the mid-term (ideally before the end of the project) • How ? • Key and reference actors in each European country • Establish formal relationships with users based on commitments (SLA) • Gain institutional and political support at European and National levels • Define the legitimate position and role of MarCoast in the GMES puzzle • Consistency with Fast Track Marine Core Services • Operational connections with other reference initiatives (GlobColour, Medspiration,…) • ESA, National Agencies, EU (fast-track services)

Short term perspective • Lots of complementary initiatives and projects • GlobCOLOUR, Medspiration, Mersea, Marine Core Service, Marcoast,… • Challenge for GMES to demonstrate maturity in the next stage • Usefulness and efficiency of services to deliver appropriate information products actually supporting decisions in sensitive environmental policy areas • Opportunity to build a strong case on coastal water management • For end to end service chain demonstration with homogeneous quality and maturity (no weak link) • Using Marcoast as natural end of the chain element to link with operational users • Assuring good coverage of • European scale needs (EEA,…) • National needs in key countries of Europe • Experiment local adaptation of service with motivated institutional regional actors
