  • Tried 4 times to take Jerusalem

  • Treaty with Saladin

  • Captured by Austrians

  • Died of infected stab wound on way home

  • Marched through Hungary and Byzantium

  • Never reached Holy Land

  • Fell of horse and drowned in his armor

  • Most of Germans returned home

  • Joined up w.Rich in Italy

  • Mainly had to go so England wouldn’t‘ conquer France while he was gone.

  • Unable to defeat Saladin, left for France

  • Nobles flipped out

  • Captured the king and ruled in his name for over a year

  • Assembled nobles, clergy, knights, and reps from each town = first form of democracy since Rome where everyone gets a say in government
