10. Who are we? Ingenix – U.S. health care company Office in Louisville, KY What do we do? Doctor verifications - we make sure doctors are who they say they are. How do we do this? We ask the doctor LOTS of questions and then check to make sure it is the truth • Web sites • Phone calls • Certificates / Documents

Why did we go? • The cost of health care is expensive • Our business was losing money • Options • Close the office • Find a cheaper way to do business • Why India • Largest growing “off-shore” country in the world • LOTS of people • Well-educated - largest group of engineers in the world • All business workers have a college degree; many with masters degree • Cheaper labor • English is the common business language

12. Why did we go – What happened next • “Down-size” Louisville • More than 200 people lost their jobs • Hire and train Indian workers • Small groups of Louisville people went to India to train • Someone from Louisville was in India August – November 2005

Indian Mannerisms / Do’s and Don’ts • Modest • “We” instead of “I” • Girls dress modestly • Be content with what you have • “Keeping the peace” - avoids conflict • Will say “Probably” or “Yes” even if they don’t agree • Respects hierarchy / authority – will not challenge or publicly embarrass a boss / teacher • Enjoys communicating; friendly talk, questions and debates • Wants to know who you are as a person • Interrupting is OK and not seen as rude • Body language • Head bobble – I “hear” you • Touchy about feet • Pointing or showing the bottom of feet to someone is disrespectful • Foot touches someone, apologize • Do not give something to someone that touched your foot • Right hands are the RIGHT hands • Eat, give money, touch someone with your right hand • No pointing allowed • Do not point with a single finger; instead point with whole hand • Public display of affection is not common, especially between men and women • Hand holding • Hugs / Kisses

We are “prepared” and We’re going to India!!! • Flight – 17 hours on a plane!! • Time zone changes – India is 9 ½ hrs ahead • Example: 1 p.m. Monday Eastern Time (in Louisville) = 10:30 p.m. Monday India Time • Work “day” in India is at NIGHT! • Go to work at 5:30 p.m. and leave at 2:30 a.m. the next day (this is 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Eastern time (in Louisville) • We arrive in the middle of the night – 2:00 a.m.!!

Cows are a sacred animal for Hindus • Referred to as the “ultimate sacrifice” • Milk is made into butter (ghee) that was used in ancient sacrifices • Milk is the nourishment of all human life from the time they are born until they die • Other animals you might see • Dogs • Goats • Donkeys / Mules • Elephants • Camels • Monkeys

Some Statistics • Offshore outsourcing will grow by more than 20% annually, increasing it from a $7 billion market in 2003 to a $25 billion market in 2015. • • 2 million jobs will move from the United States and Europe to cheaper destinations • The emigration of service jobs across all industries could be as high as 4 million. • In the next five years 3/4 of major financial institutions and investment banks will allocate tasks to low labor cost countries and that India will be at the top of the list. • Global financial institutions are predicted to invest $356 billion in India for outsourcing projects. • •

More Statistics • 3.3 million U.S. jobs and $136 billion in wages could be moved to such countries as India, China, and Russia by 2015. • India has become the number one location for most companies • Market opportunity for Indian providers would grow to $25 billion by 2005. • India for example expects to create 2 million jobs in the next 10 years
