What is Project Server? • Microsoft Project Server is an enterprise project management automated tool that is designed to support multiple projects. • Using Project Server, Denver Public Schools (DPS) can track and view all projects and resource allocations in one location. • Glossary at the end of the module.

  5. Project Server has four databases: Working, Published, Reporting and Archive REPORTING DATABASE WORKING DATABASE PUBLISHED DATABASE ARCHIVE DATABASE

Project Web Application (PWA) overview • The Project Web Application, also known as PWA, is the web interface for project server. • Here you will find all DPS projects and portfolio information stored in one central location. • In the PWA some of the things you will find include: • Project Center and review data • Project Intake documents and information forms • Project schedule • Resource allocation reports • Link to Project Workspaces (PWS)

  7. Once logged in you will see a toolbar on the left side. Use this tool bar to navigate the Project Web Application.

  8. Click ‘Project Center’ to view all of the DPS projects you have access to and associated project data.

  9. When clicking on a project name, you can view the Project Detail Pages (PDP’s).

  10. This is a standard project initiation document (PID). You will find this form on Project Server. Once the PID has been filled it out and it has been approved work on the project can begin.

  11. You may also have access to the Resource Center. Here you can view resources and their time allocations.

  12. Project Workspace (PWS) Overview • Once your project has been approved, you can begin to collaborate with your team using a Project Workspace (PWS). • Project Workspaces are a shared space where team members and all interested stakeholders on a project can view updates, risks, and issues on a project • The URL to access Project Workspace is https://projects.dpsk12.org/PWA/ followed by the project work number.

  13. Once inside the Project Workspace the first thing you will see is a list of deliverables assigned to team members.

  14. As you scroll down, you will see a list of issues and who they are assigned to.

  15. This is followed by a list of risks associated with the project.

  16. Microsoft Project Professional Overview • Microsoft Project Professional, often referred to as Project, is the client software Project Managers use to manage schedules with unlimited functionality. • The training on how to use project is covered in later modules.

  17. Project Management Methodology Site Overview • You can find more information about the Project Management Methodology at DPS at https://pmm.dpsk12.org, including project templates and detailed information about the project management process and phases.
