  2. Dubai is located in the United Arab Emirates, right beside Saudi Arabia, which is part of the middle east. • It is known as one of the richest Cities in the world, and specializes in tourism.

  3. Contents • Site and Situation • Landmarks and Tourism • History • CBD & Transportation • Housing • Landscape and Climate • Nightlife

  4. Site and Situation • Dubai lies on a peninsula in the Arabian gulf. Its ideal location is key for exporting and trading goods, and that’s exactly what Dubai specializes in.

  5. WOW! Dubai’s great advantage in finance opens a world of opportunities. A great man made landmark of Dubai is its Palm Islands. These 2 islands were built out of sand for residential use and tourism. These two islands, as well as the world map (also made out of sand) are visible from space.

  6. Tourism Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow in45°C? One amazing attraction in the city of Dubai is their indoor ski hill. The hill is molded as if it were a mountain setting, perfectly designed for skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, or even just playing in the snow

  7. Structure of Dubai

  8. History • There has been records of the city of Dubai since 1799. • In 1833 the Al Maktoum dynasty of the Bani Yas tribe took over the town of Dubai • A second attempt to take over Dubai by the Qawasim pirates was unsuccessful. • In 1835 Dubai signed a maritime truce with Britain. Shortly after, Dubai was under protection of the United Kingdom. • Up untill the 1930’s Dubai was primarily known as an important port for tradesmen, and for its pearl exports. • In the 1960’s oil was discovered 120km from Dubai. Since then oil has become one of Dubai’s greatest concessions. • Dubai along with 6 other emirates formed the United Arab Emirates, when Britain left the Persian Gulf in 1971

  9. The CBD of Dubai The Layout of downtown Dubai is big but somewhat simple. The streets mainly direct North/South, and East/West, except for some which follow the Khor Dubai (The creek running through the center of Dubai)

  10. Transportation • There are 3 types of transportation in Dubai. • The city has no real public transportation service, except for Taxi and an abra, which is a small ferry that carries about 20 people at a time. The abra travels from one side of the creek to the other. Aside from taxi and the abra is the good old fashion “having your own car” method.

  11. Housing • Dubai’s economy is stable, so most people that live in Dubai afford proper housing. • The most expensive housing in Dubai would be on any of the palm islands, or the World map islands, as well as in the Downtown (CBD). • The farther away from the CBD the less expensive the housing gets.

  12. Landscape & Climate • The are around Dubai is mainly all open desert. • The skies are almost always clear in Dubai, where the sun shines all year round. • Temperatures range from 15°C - 30°C in the winter, and 30°C - 50°C in the summer • OMFG! I Want To Go Off-Roading SO Bad!!!
