  6. For Attendance on the 3x5 card • Write your NAME • Write the DATE • Write your SECTION • section 20 • AND...

  7. Goals of the Course are • To be able to use applications software • Windows, MS Excel, MS Access • Integrating applications in Office • An accurate mental model of a computer • hardware • software • the Internet, HTML, networks • To be aware of issues in society related to computers

  8. GOALS - write them down • What are your expectations for this class? • What do you want to learn? • Make a LIST of your 3 most important expectations on the card, then…

  9. On the back of the card Write the answer to: • What's the most complicated thing you've done with a computer? • What's the task you've done on a computer that you are proudest of? • In other words, indicate your level of experience with using computers

  10. Remember: Turn in your card • Before you leave… • TURN in your card at the front of the room

Textbook and Supplies • You are responsible for material in chapters in the textbook that are listed in schedule and covered in lectures • Lecture tests are closed note, closed book • You are responsible for material on Study Sheets for Lab Tests • Lab tests are open note, open book • 3x5 cards - yes!

  12. Your Grade is Based on: • Lecture Exam 1 200 points • Lecture Exam 2 250 points • Lab Exam 1 on Windows/Excel 100pts • Lab Exam 2 on MS Excel 100 points • Lab Exam 3 on MS Access 150 points • Lab Exam 4 on Integrating Applications 150 points • AND

Your Grade continued • Attendance • 15 points for attendance at First Lab • to verify your computer account • 15 points for attendance at Last Lab • to fill out the TCE form • 20 points for attendance at Lectures • one point per day • Plus one bonus point for in-class activities • In Total, 200+200+200+50+100+100 + 100+15+15+20 = 1000 points

Attendance • Required at All Lectures • taken often, 3x5 cards • Two Required Labs • First and last labs of the semester • Four Lab Tests • Makeup Request Process – EXCUSED absences only! • Two Lecture Tests • arrange alternate time with lecturer if you have class • Open Labs - optional attendance but bonus!

  15. Bonus Points • One bonus point for each Open Lab attended, up to 9 points. • Up to 5 bonus points for the Alice programming assignment, depending on how well you do the assignment • Up to 8 bonus points for doing some PowerPoint at the Last Lab, depending on how well you do the assignment. This is in addition to the 15 points for attending the Last Lab and filling out the TCE form.

  16. Accommodation for Disabilities • Please tell me about it if you have a letter - as soon as possible! • We can arrange accommodation for both lecture and lab tests • These letters are NOT retroactive! That means you cannot go back and retake tests if you bring me a letter after the fact.

  17. Plagiarism / Cheating • seeking "Unfair academic advantage" • UK Cheating Policy is followed • NO assistance from someone else on Lab or Lecture tests, either in the room or electronically

  18. Next... • Read the chapter in the textbook about File Management (chapter 4) • Come to your first lab and do First Lab activities
