  2. What is it? Asthma is a breathing difficulty caused by clogged airways. The intensity of the effects range from minor obstructions to major issues that affect daily living. It can be especially bad since the chances of asthma attacks are always there.

  3. Symptoms • Shortness of breath • Chest tightness or pain • Wheezing when breathing • Increased difficulty when breathing • Addiction to quick-relief inhalers

  4. Treatments • The treatments vary depending on the type of asthma. There are three basic types of treatments: long-term, quick relief, and those for allergy-related asthma. • Long term asthma usually calls for daily pills, inhalers, or other oral medications. • Quick relief asthma can almost always inhalers or other oral medications to quickly relieve airway inflammation. • Allergy related asthma can be avoided by taking immunotherapy, Xolair injections, or oral and nasal spray antihistamines.

  5. Causes • Strenuous physical activity • Cold air, polluted air, airborne allergens. • The common cold and other respiratory infections. • Allergic reactions and diseases such as GERD.

  6. Prevention: 6 Simple Steps • Monitor your breathing • Identify and avoid asthma triggers • Identify and treat attacks early • Take medication as prescribed • Pay attention to increasing quick-relief inhaler use • Follow asthma action plan
