What Will Your Answer Be? • Some-day you’ll stand at the bar on high, Some day your record you’ll see; Some-day you’ll answer the question of life, What will your answer be? • Sadly you’ll stand, if you’re unprepared, trembling, you’ll fall on your knees; Facing the sentence of life or of death, What will that sentence be? • Now is the time to pre-pare my friend, make your soul spotless and free; Washed in the blood of the Crucified One, He will your answer be?
The Chorus • What will it be? What will it be? Where will you spend your eternity? What will it be, O what will it be? What will your answer be?
The First Stanza: • “Some day you’ll stand at the bar on high, some day your record you’ll see.” • Begins by drawing an image of one standing at the bar (a court scene), at which time the record of your life will be seen, 2 Cor. 5:10; Rev. 20:15. • “Some day you’ll answer the question of life, what will your answer be?” • Relates to whether we have lived up to the God-intended purpose of our life. Eccl. 12:13,14.
The Second Stanza: • “Sadly you’ll stand if you’re unprepared, Trembling you’ll fall on your knee.” • We will fall on our knees! Phil. 2:10-13. For the unprepared it will be a time of trembling! Acts 9:5-6. • “Facing the sentence of life or of death, what will that answer be?” • The sentence will be that of life, Matt. 25:46, or of death, Rev. 21:8. What will your answer be?
The Third Stanza: • “Now is the time to prepare my friend, Make your soul spotless and free” • Now is the time to prepare! Prov. 27:1; 2 Cor. 6:2 • By obtaining God’s forgiveness, you can make your “soul spotless and free,” Acts 2:38; 2 Pet. 3:14. • “Washed in the blood of the Crucified One, He will your answer be.” • Christians are those who have been washed in the blood, Rev. 1:5; I John 17; Acts 22:16; Eph. 1:7!
The Chorus: • “What will it be? What will it be? Wherewill you spend your eternity? What will it be, O what will it be, what will it be?” • Note: The idea of spendingeternity is a bit misleading, for eternity can not be spent; it will last forever! • But as we contemplate that day, each of us should ponder the question, “what will my eternity be!” We can know! I John 5:13
Judgment Day is Coming! • Heb. 9:27: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” • 2 Cor. 5:10: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good, or bad.” • Acts 17:31: “Because He hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom He hath ordained; whereof He has given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised Him from the dead.” • Note also Acts 24:25and Romans 14:12.
Events Which Will Occur on that Day: • All The Dead will be raised, John 5:28-29; Acts 24:15. • Jesus and His angels will appear, Matt. 25:31. • All will stand before the Great Judge, Matt. 25:32; Rev. 20:12; 2 Cor. 5:10. • Jesus will be the Judge, Acts 17:31; Matt. 25:31-32. • The books will be opened, Rev. 20:12. • The word of God, John 12:48. • All will be judged by the same divine standard!
Events Which Will Occur (con’t) • Each person will give account to God, Rom. 14:12; Matt. 7:22-23. • Will include our thoughts, I Cor. 4:5, words, Matt. 12:36-37, and deeds, 2 Cor. 5:10; Rev. 20:15. • Each person will receive His just reward, Rom. 2:5-11. (There will be no mistakes!) • Eternal Sentence will be pronounced and carried out, Matt. 25:31-34, 41,46. • Eternal life, Matt. 25:34,46. • Eternal punishment, Matt. 25:41,46. • The earth and the works therein will be burned up, 2 Peter 3:10-12.
Why Has God Appointed a Day of Judgment? • It will provide opportunity for the glory and honor of Jesus to be acknowledged by all, Phil. 2:9-11; 2 Thess. 1:10. • It will provide Opportunity for the Justice of God to be Served, 2 Thess. 1:5-8. • The ungodly will be convicted of their sins, Jude 15. • The righteous will have their works made evident! • So that the Victory of Righteousness and the Defeat of Evil can be completed! • The victory of righteousness, I Cor. 15:24-26. • The defeat of evil, Rev. 20:10,14.
How Our Knowledge of These Events Should Affect Us: • Sinners should be moved to repent and obey God now, Acts 17:30-31. • Christians should be motivated to live a life of Godliness and Faithfulness, 2 Pet. 3:11,14. • Must not be negligent, Heb. 4:1,11; 3:12. • Must love and serve God with the whole heart, Matt. 22:37-38. • Should be patient, wait on the Lord, Jas. 5:7-8,11. • Vengeance belongs to the Lord; He will repay! Rom. 12:19. • Wait for the blessings which will come, I Pet. 1:3-4. • Keep being faithful, Rev. 2:10.
Conclusion: • There’s a Great Day coming; the day of Judgment! Judgment delayed is not Judgment escaped! 2 Peter 3:7-9. • Will you, like Felix, tremble and remain in your sins, Acts 24:25, or will you, like the eunuch hasten to obey, Acts 8:36. cf. Heb. 10:31? • “Some day you’ll stand at the bar on high, Some day your record you’ll see; some day you’ll answer the question of life, what will your answer be?”
