Attendance • UA’s – A student will receive a UA on their attendance record when they have more than 3 absences in a class – excused or unexcused. • Once an athlete has more than 3 absences in any class during their sport season they will not be allowed to play in any contests/games/matches until they are made up. Sluffs require 2 hours of remediation at attendance school. • Each absence after 3 requires 1 hour of attendance remediation • Remediation options: • Attend Saturday School at North Campus. • Attend Consultation Hour on Monday’s, 1:30-2:30 pm, recovers 1 hour • Have no absences for a week, recovers 1 hour • Attend or work special events as deemed appropriate by WHS administration. Attendance continued • Students who are given U’s must work out the remediation with the teacher who gave them the U before they are allowed to play in any contests/games/matches. • Students must attend ALL classes and be on time on game/contests/match days. • Previous Doctors/Dentist appointments or other special circumstances must be cleared in advance through Mr. Marsing. Attendance cont. • Role of the Student: • Be on time and attend all classes. • Follow proper check-in / check-out procedures. • Get a tardy slip when arriving late to school. • Obtain assignment(s) from the teacher due to absences. • Role of the Parent: • Encourage regular attendance at school • Regularly check Aspire and keep personal contact information current with the school. https://sisweb.wasatch.edu/Login/ • Avoid interruptions of the academic year as much as possible by planning medical appointments and vacations at times that will not require your student to be out of school. Attendance codes that will result in UA’s • E – Excused by Parent • S – Truancy (Sluff) • X – Unexcused Absence • ANY MEDICAL OR EMERGENCY SITUATIONS ON GAME DAYS MUST BE CLEARED THROUGH Mr. Marsing. • Send via an e-mail steven.marsing@wasatch.edu or call school and ask for extension 3703. GPA Eligibility • 2.0 and no more than 1 F in the previous term. • At the end of the term when the grades have been posted the only way a grade can be changed is due to a clerical error by the teacher. • Asking to do extra work after grades have been posted does not restore eligibility. • I’s are considered to be an F until all work has been completed and the grade has been changed. • If a student is ineligible due to grades they are not allowed to compete in any athletic contests until the end of the next term. • Coaches may allow ineligible athletes to practice but they can not compete or be dressed out in team area on contest days. • Academic All-State Teams- Usually require a 4.0 Cumulative GPA – Seniors only • All grades begin to count your freshman year for scholarships/Academic All-State or Academic All-Region. Bus Trips/Overnight Travel • Proper behavior always. • Must ride down and return with team on the bus. • Any exceptions must be cleared with Mr. Marsing in advance. • Send an e-mail explaining the situation and who your student will be coming home with. • A parent may ask permission from the coach to transport their athlete and you do not need to get prior permission from Mr. Marsing. • Stay with team. • Eat all meals with the team. • They are school sponsored trips, not family vacations STUDENT FIRST - ATHLETE SECOND
