Joshua6th book of the Bible • Meaning: the conquest of the land promised is a prophecy of the spiritual conquest of the world through the church under the leadership of Jesus the Messiah • Purpose:After Moses’ death the leadership of the nation passed into the hands of Joshua • To show God’s fidelity in giving Israel the land promised. • Main Ideas: Joshua mobilized his forces and prepared them for battle. They crossed the

  3. Joshua continued Jordan River and the battles began.There were 3 battles fought.North, South, Central regions. After the victories the land was divided among the various tribes of Israel. Joshua then exhorted the people and died in peace.

  4. Judges7th book • Meaning: To show that Israel’s fate depends on her obedience to God (four-fold cycle) • Israel sins>Yahweh Punishes • Israel repents>Yahweh forgives • To show how Israel lived and grew from the death of Joshua to the era of the Kings.

More Judges • Main Ideas: Judges are gifted natural leaders • Defend Israel • Uphold Israel’s honor • Lead the people back to God • Are a product of their time • Judges lead a single tribe of Israel at at time, the never had authority over the entire nation • Judges are divided into Major and Minor Judges

Ruth8th book of the Bible • The book is names after the Moabite woman who was joined to the Israelite people by her marriage with the influential Boaz of Bethlehem. • This story is a beautiful example of filial piety ( family loyalty). • This book is pleasing to the Hebrews because of its connection to David. The line of ancestors for Jesus is begun.

More Ruth • Purpose; To show the divine reward for family loyalty even when practiced by a stranger • Ruth’s spirit of self-sacrifice and her moral integrity were favored by god with the gift of faith and an illustrious mariage whereby she became the ancestress of David and of Jesus • The Messiah came to save all is foreshadowed.
