Modernising Nursing in the Community Programme Board • Modernising Nursing in the Community Board established in September 2009. • To provide leadership and vision to support NHS Boards to develop and deliver: - High Quality - Sustainable and - Person centred community nursing services. • Temporary website for more information - www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Health/NHS-Scotland/nursing/Modernisation • Work of the Board is due to be complete in 2011

  3. Key Aims • To ensure patient safety. • Improve quality of care. • Build capacity, capability, sustainability and flexibility of nursing teams. • Identification of the most vulnerable families. • Prevention & Early Intervention e.g. implementation of vulnerable families framework

MNiC Framework • Elements of the framework/toolkit continue to develop • ‘Aurion’ commissioned to build the website by end of March • Populated from March to December • Supported by Project team at NES • User reference group • Material made available when ready • Full Website launch December 2011

Career Framework for Community Nursing • Nursing in Occupational Health Completed • PHN and DN end of August • Community Children's and Mental Health Nursing • Based on the 4 pillars used for advanced practice • Work being taken forward by Children, Young People and Families and KPAH sub groups • Supported by NES

  9. Education sub group established • Support HEIs in developing community component of new pre-registration nursing • modernisation of post-registration programmes • education component of the career framework • Engage other UK countries • Influence UK wide agenda – NMC reviews

MNiC Programme Manager Visits to NHS Boards • Visits complete • Support for the aims and direction of MNiC • Innovative examples of practice and service delivery evident – in pockets • NHS Boards facing similar challenges – e.g. workforce/workload • Board’s modernisation plans at different stages of development and implementation • Toolkit as a medium to showcase practice • Requests for examples from all NHS Boards

Community Nursing Workload Assessment Tool • Working group of the Nursing and Midwifery Workload and Workforce Planning Programme (membership from MNiC Programme Board). • Community Nursing Assessment Tool Pilot completed on 24 July 2012 • Data analysis in progress • Due for Completion May 2012

Leading Better Care Phase 2 • Includes Community Nursing • Developing Leadership Roles • Outcome Measures/Clinical Quality Indicators • Releasing Time to Care in the Community • Organisational change based on lean methodology • All NHS Boards autumn 2010 • Regular progress reports to MNiC Board

CHILDREN YOUNG PEOPLE AND FAMILIES SUB GROUP Aim • To develop a framework for public health nursing (0-19) which will assist NHS Boards in the provision of high quality, sustainable public health nursing in the community. • To adopt a coordinated Scotland wide approach while enabling local solutions.
