Is it for us? • Students • “There is a growing understanding that providing web-based courses for many middle and high school students works.” • SREB’s Report on State Virtual Schools, June 2005 • Online courses have benefited students who need: • Academic courses that their school cannot provide due to funding, shortage of certified, highly qualified teachers, etc. • To re-take courses for graduation • Alternatives to traditional education • Options to courses offered in their school • Access to courses because of physical disabilities

Online Professional Development (OPD) Advantages of OPD (Online Professional Development: Why SREB States Should Use It, Oct., 2004) • Reach teachers regardless of where they work or live • Eliminate or reduce travel time and expense • Provide large numbers of teachers with quality PD within a specified time period • Create a learning community where teachers have contact with other teachers who share common experiences and goals
