  3. Increased curriculum time Increased after school provision Wider range of activities Impact – more young people participating

  4. Improved skill development Support in school for talented performers Better progression to more appropriate clubs Improved competition structures Impact – more young people performing

  5. Sports leadership embedded in school curriculum Increased volunteering in after school sport and local clubs Improved routeways into teaching, coaching and officiating Impact – more young people leading & volunteering

  6. Improved attainment Improved behaviour & attendance Improved concentration More young people achieving Impact – improving schools

  7. Next 5 years • 5 hours offer of PE and sport per week to young people • 2012 Olympics/Paralympics • Creating a world class system for PE and School Sport • Going from good to great

  8. To be a GREAT system Create more and better opportunities for more young people to participate, perform and lead/volunteer in high quality PE and School Sport and progress seamlessly into community sport

  9. Participation • Supporting physical activity – but not the only answer! • Focus on intra school competition • National network of disability clubs • Extending activity • More coaches • FE co-ordinators

  10. Performance • Modernisation of Competition structures – driven through UK School Games • Expansion of Competition manager network • Ensuring talented athletes are supported in schools • 21st century sports clubs • Increasing access to coaching

  11. Leadership and Volunteering • Who isn’t taking a leadership and volunteering role – ensuring diversity? • Stretching down to KS3 and primary • Volunteering at major events • Developing Young Officials

  12. Our challenges • Creating sustainable change • 16-19 provision • Availability of coaches and others to support after school sport • Competitive sport structures • Quality, quality, quality • Trusting each other • Need to focus where we can make a difference but . . . continue to take risks
