  2. Wheels to Africa • Founded by: Winston Duncan at the age of 10 • Wheels to Africa is a nonprofit organization whose principal purpose is to work with local youth, ages 10-18, to organize local bike collections and send the donated bikes to communities in Africa.  • The bikes are used to provide basic transportation for people to reach school, food, water and medical care • A secondary principal purpose is to serve as a cultural and educational forum children and youth -- to educate them on how their quality of life compares with the poorest world communities.  • Wheels to Africa strives to seed a movement of community and volunteerism, and to perpetuate a "pass it on" commitment to help those who are less fortunate.

  3. Wheels to Africa and Me • In 2009-201, Wheels to Africa from Arlington Virginia, came to South County Secondary School to talk to us about sending bikes to Africa. I was part of Key Club and an officer and listening to the trouble Africa has gone through to get from one place to another, our club decided to help. • In 2009-2010, SCSS collected close to 200 bikes and had around 30 volunteers. • In 2010-2011, SCSS collected close to 300 bikes and had around 50 volunteers.

  4. Wheels to Africa Facts: • Since 2005, Wheels to Africa has collected over 3500 bikes! Wheels to Africa brought together 104 volunteers to collect over 1000 bikes in one day in 2008! • Wheels to Africa is selling Logo Tshirts for $25.  The tshirts are all cotton black quality material.  A visual image will be displayed soon! • Cash donations to Wheels to Africa go towards the costs of supplies, such as banners, tools, paint, signs and other materials needed to stage bike collections. • Funds may also be used for truck rental, storage and shipping for collected bikes if free use of such items are not available. • Wheels to Africa attempts to obtain supplies and services free or at greatly reduced costs as much as possible.  • Wheels to Africa is an all volunteer organization
