  2. Follow these steps to divide by a two digit number or larger. • List the multiples of your divisor (0-9). You can either actually add the divisor 9 times or use mental math. • Divide beginning with the largest place (With 6,789 ÷ 38, you would do 6 ÷ 38 = 0 according to your listed multiples). • Put the quotient on top of the number you divided, put the product below, and subtract. • Make sure that your difference (answer to subtraction problem) is smaller than your divisor (what you are dividing by). If it is, bring down the next number and repeat steps 2-4. • When you have no more numbers to bring down, whatever is left is your remainder. To check your work, multiply the quotient by the divisor and add the remainder. The answer should be the same as the dividend.
