  1. What do you remember? Label as many words as you can with the parts of speech…. The baking bread smelled good.

  2. NOUN • a person, place or thing • Can be used as a subject The DOG went outside. • Can be used as an object for a verb The BOY kicked the BALL.

  3. PRONOUN • A word that substitutes for a noun HE decided to walk to the movies. There is nothing for you to do.

  4. ARTICLE • Any word used to signal the presence of a noun A, AN, THE

  5. CONJUCTION • A word that connects other words, phrases or sentences And, but, or, because She was going to walk but then it started to rain.

  6. ADJECTIVE • A word or combination of words that modifies (or describes) a noun • Her blue jacket is really old. • The temporary parking lot is looking full.

  7. VERB • A word that expresses action, existence or occurrence • I ranfourmiles today. • They decided their puppyneeded a haircut.

  8. ADVERB • A word that modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb She walkedslowly through the door. The orange snakeslowlymade its way through the classroom.

  9. PREPOSITION • A word that shows a relationship of a noun to another noun • By, in, to, from, with, through Shedecidedto come through the frontdoor.

  10. Practice *Identify the parts of speech for each word in the sentence • Each of the sisters has her own computer. • Those tap shoes are Emily’s, but where is her outfit? • My father’s favorite kind of music is rock-n-roll.
