  9. Choosing Roles For A Season Factors to consider: • Clearly define the roles! • Build in class-time to teach all the roles. • Students must get practice learning the roles. • Build in accountability. • Provide resources needed to fulfill roles.

  10. A Word On Statistics Remember: • Keep it simple. • As with all roles, practice is vital. • Learning about statistics (“how” & “why”) is part of becoming more literate about the sport. • Scorekeeping skills will transfer across sports.

  11. Creating Conditions For Successful Performance Central teacher tasks: • Establish importance of the various roles. • Assign accountability for role performance. • Prepare supporting materials (e.g., team binders; score sheets; equipment; duty team box/-cart).

  12. Including All Students In Sport Education: • With diverse roles, physical limitations need not keep students from active participation. • Lower-skilled students are more likely to thrive when contributing through non-player roles.

  13. Sports Boards Especially effective at secondary school level programs • Increased student input in decision- making process of organizing & designing season. • Direct focus on personal growth.

  14. Sports Boards (cont’d.) Possible functions: • Assist in competition planning. • Share ideas - offer feedback to teacher. • Be role models. • Plan culminating event(s). • Ensure smooth running of the season.

  15. Conflict Resolution Committee It would handle: • Concerns of fair play violations, • Complaints from / about referees, and • Game protests.

  16. Sport Education & Personal/Social Development • Personal / social development never occurs in isolation. • SE’s diverse roles directly target the related objectives. • Roles need to be defined, taught, practiced & are part of team performance.
