Study abroad financial support schemes For the SAME study abroad program: Students may receive funding support from different schemes (e.g. HKUST Study Abroad Sponsorship + SSE/ SSEBR/NMT-SSEBR/NMT-MES) Amount of funding from all sources combined Must NOT exceed the reference program cost • Case Study: Exchange program in UK • HKUST Study Abroad Sponsorship: $6,000 • SSE: $53,000 • Final financial support award disbursement: $55,000(Not $59,000) > Reference Program Cost: $55,000

Subsidy Calculation – Example SSE • Mary is going to participate an exchange program • Program Destination: UK • Program Duration: 190 days • % of full grant approved by SFO: 80% • Reference program cost: HK$50,000 • Maximum SSE award amount Mary could get: • (Destination $8,000 + Duration $45,000) x 80% • = HK$42,400

  24. Plan well To maximize the award amount which you can get from the Schemes, you should plan ahead and plan well. Consider: • Number of times you plan to go study abroadYou are only entitled the award of some schemes ONCE only • DestinationIs the program held in a country which is on the BR list? • The program duration • Your Financial Assistance rate

Procedures and timeline If you apply the eligible program directly with host institution Register your program on MyStudyAbroad, and wait for OGL’s confirmation via the System If you have committed to a study abroad program on MyStudyAbroad system (you applied the program through and nominated by HKUST) Submit financial support application on MyStudyAbroad Receive and accept your offer on MyStudyAbroad Financial support award disbursement

Procedures and timeline 2019/20 Academic Year • Financial support applications must be submitted BEFORE the start of the study abroad program • Financial support application for study abroad programs in Academic Year 2020-2021 will start around August 2020, stay tuned for updates on our website • Funding for Government subsidy schemes is limited, so apply early!
