Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology Abstract • This is the initial report on the development of a Thai-Japanese electronic dictionary which is a joint research between Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology (TNI) and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS). The purpose of this project is to create a Thai-Japanese dictionary for TNI’s students who are studying Japanese language and technical Japanese words. The dictionary database initially contains about 50,000 words from TUFS’s XML database of Japanese-Thai and Thai-Japanese dictionary add with Technology Promotion Association (Thai-Japan)’s Japanese-Thai Technical words dictionary and Thai-Japanese Tourism dictionary. The structure of the database is divided to multiple fields including Romaji, Kana, Kanji, Thai, English, synonym, antonym; see also, example sentence, parts, field, etymology, literally, proverb and style. The TNI e-dictionary is a website for testing of the system while giving service to the students and general users Thai and Japanese. Access of Japanese word can be done by enter Romaji, Kana, or Kanji. Access of Thai words can be done by enter Thai characters. The development of new Thai and Japanese words is done by a group of researchers, staffs and students which involve in proposing, editing and approving of new words. More than 3,000 technical words in Engineering, Information Technology and Business Administration field are being added to the database via TNI web service.
