The New E-Certification System • To better serve educators, policymakers and public, OSPI is improving the technology that supports certification. • An 18 month project is nearing completion to upgrade the e-Certification system to enhance access to certification functions for educators and school districts. • An underlying goal is to promote clear communications and streamline acquiring and maintaining educator credentials.

E-Certification & CTE • College Program Completers in the four broad areas of CTE • Agriculture, Business • Marketing Ed, • Family & Consumer Sciences and • Technical Ed The applicant will not only need to apply for the Initial CTE certificate, but also the basic Ed certificate called the Residency teacher and meet all requirements for the Residency teacher before the Initial CTE certificate can be issued. (new information is now on the CTE website)

E-Certification Educator User Guidehttp://www.k12.wa.us/Certification/e-Cert/E-CertEducatorUG.pdf • The following certification activities are available now to educators: •  Check certificate, permit, and application status for all educators •  Renew teacher, administrator, and educational staff associate certificates •  Reissue residency teacher certificates •  Request duplicate copies of educator certificates •  Apply for teacher certificate applications (for teacher preparation program candidates) • The E-Certification system is available through OSPI’s Education Data System (EDS) portal. The EDS web address is https://eds.ospi.k12.wa.us. Below are the instructions to access to the EDS portal and E-Certification system.

  6. E-Certification • Have educator create a login account and enter • E-certification to create an account

  7. Log into EDS E-Certification. • Click on “View my Applications” • Search by last name and last four of the Social Security number • (example is for a CTE Conditional)

  10. District request screen You must have the role of District Personnel Administrator for the E-Certification on-line applications in order to complete a district request. (contact your District Security Administrator to get you this role or work with your Human Resource Department) To Search for educator go to “Search” page • Search by First Name and Date of Birth to begin with If no Return/Results: • Have educator create a login account and enter E-Certification to create a record If there are Return/Results • Note Last Name and Social Security (last four). • Click on appropriate applicant to view certification information/history

  11. Choose Conditional

  12. You will need the applicants last name and last four of their Social Security number.

  13. Select the appropriate person (Reminder: I am using myself and this is not my SS#)

  14. Click on “Add Request”

  15. You will need to use the date you are requesting and the end date of the class being taught. • Example: You can use 6/30/15 for this school year.

  16. Unique and Special Circumstances for the CTE conditional • Qualifications • It will not allow you to leave blank

  17. As you can see, the endorsements are listed in alphabetical order and with the endorsements(VCODES)

  20. You have successfully submitted the district request form. (yeah!)

On the Welcome screen, the applicant needs to scroll down to see the “apply for district request here” and it is where the applicant will begin by clicking on the box. • They will select “Apply for your district request here”. • If the applicant does not see this, then they will need to be sure they created an account in EDS and chose E-Certification. If their Social Security information comes up as “Social Security number already exists for another account”, then you need to email me with the applicants name and date of birth so we can merge account information.

OPEN or RE-OPENED vs PENDING REVIEW • Open or re-opened is where the application is at in review status and has not been evaluated yet. • Pending review means it has been evaluated and we are waiting on additional information. If you see any applications as “pending review” (PR) then the applicant has claimed the request. If all you see is “district request” (DR), then the district request is there but the applicant has not applied for it.

  24. Permits: All permits that have been issued are under “permits” after you click on “select” for the certificate you are looking at.

  25. The yellow highlighted certificate is the one that is selected. As you can see, the endorsements are listed for this individual has “Automotive Technology” and the VCODE is listed next to it.
