  2. Salvation • What am I saved from? • Sin, • Death • and Hell • More important is “What am I saved to?” • A relationship with a living, loving God • We are saved so we may become what we were always meant to be (like Jesus) Dr. Adrian Todd - www.gatewaychurch.org.uk

How do I get saved? • We are saved based on our relationship with Jesus Christ (1 John 3:23, Acts2:38) • believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God • repent • be baptised • you will receive the Holy Spirit • We are judged on the basis of what we have done (1 Cor 3) Dr. Adrian Todd - www.gatewaychurch.org.uk

  4. So, how do I behave? • However, you like! • BUT!, there is always a “but” • Why would you want to? • Romans 6 • v14 not under law but under grace • v1 Shall I continue in sin? • NO WAY! • James 2:17 - faith, if it has no works, is dead Dr. Adrian Todd - www.gatewaychurch.org.uk

  5. Grace and Mercy • Grace - when we get something good we do not deserve • Mercy - when we do not get the punishment we do deserve • We cannot earn our salvation by being good • We can only accept God’s gracious, undeserved, wonderful offer Dr. Adrian Todd - www.gatewaychurch.org.uk

Expressions of love & joy • The way we live speaks of how we relate to God • good works flow from our salvation, not the other way round • How much do we want to please Jesus? • we are to live out the character of Jesus (Galatians 5:22-23) • love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control Dr. Adrian Todd - www.gatewaychurch.org.uk

Life or Death • Sin brings death (James 1:15) • Every time we sin we say, “I choose death” • Every time we are ask for forgiveness we say, “I choose life” • Every time we choose to live to please Jesus we say, “I choose life” • Consistently choosing life brings “life in all its fullness” (John 10:10) Dr. Adrian Todd - www.gatewaychurch.org.uk

  8. But what if I sin? • Jesus’ death and resurrection are more than capable • Provision has been made if we should slip • 1 John 1:8, confess your sins • keep short accounts • don’t wait to feel guilty for a while Dr. Adrian Todd - www.gatewaychurch.org.uk

  9. Today’s homework!!! God’s stickies are peeled off His block of pure love • Is there any unfinished business with God? • Are you presuming upon God’s grace? • How much do you want to please Jesus? Dr. Adrian Todd - www.gatewaychurch.org.uk
