System Wide Information Management (SWIM)


What is swim

SWIM is not:

A big system in a new facility

A giant database

A replacement for FAA telecommunications program

SWIM is an information technology program that will operate in the background to provide seamless information to users who have a valid need for the data

What is SWIM?

SWIM will:

  • Lower information costs

  • Increase speed to establish new interfaces

  • Increase common situational awareness

  • Increase National Airspace System agility

SWIM Acquisition Strategy

  • Distribute (Leverage existing programs to deploy the 9 capabilities)

    • Use existing (implementing programs) contracts and contractors to develop requirements, design, test, implement

      • For example

    • En Route System (ERAM) – Lockheed Martin

    • Traffic Flow Management (TFM) – Computer Services Corporation (CSC)

    • Weather Systems – MIT Lincoln Labs

    • SWIM Program Office will use existing contracts for program office support (systems engineering and integration activities)

      • Boeing is the main SWIM Program Office Integrator Contractor (Teaming)

    • COTS software for Core Services Procured and Provided for Analysis
