  10. 2.4 Professional Teaching Standards Element 1 Teachers know their subject content and how to teach that content to students Element 2 Teachers know their students and how students learn Element 3 Teachers plan, assess and report for effective learning Element 4 Teachers communicate effectively with their students Element 5 Teachers create and maintain safe and challenging learning environments through the use of classroom management skills Element 6 Teachers continually improve their professional knowledge and practice Element 7 Teachers are actively engaged members of their profession and the wider community www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  11. 2.5 Mandatory Accreditation At the point of employment Provisional accreditation - teaching qualification Conditional accreditation - relevant degree or substantial part of a teaching qualification Professional Competence www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  12. 2.6 Who accredits ? Person or body called a Teacher Accreditation Authority (TAA) Point of employment Professional Competence www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  13. 2.7 Who’s accredited? New Scheme Teachers All teachers (including casuals) who first started teaching in NSW schools after 1 October 2004 Teachers returning after a break of five years or more from teaching in NSW Teachers from interstate and overseas www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  14. 2.8 Accreditation requirements Payment of an annual fee Gaining accreditation at Professional Competence within the specified timeframe Maintaining accreditation including through continuing professional development www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  15. 2.9Accreditation timeframe Need to gain Professional Competence… (full time) within 3 years if provisionally accredited or 4 years if conditionally accredited (casual, temporary and part time) within 5 years if provisionally accredited or 6 years if conditionally accredited www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  16. 2.10 Accreditation overview Induction and ongoing support around planning, teaching, assessment and reporting Meeting ALL of the Professional Teaching Standards at Professional Competence Collection of evidence Accreditation Report which includes selected evidence used to make the accreditation decision www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  17. 3.1 What to do Collect evidence, drawn from your practice, that relates to demonstrating the Professional Teaching Standards NOT A PORTFOLIO ! Record your thinking about your development Seek out the support and guidance of your supervising teacher and/or mentor www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  19. 3.4 Annotating the Evidence Provides a context for the evidence Annotations should explain how the evidence relates to a particular Standard or Standards Effective annotations use the language of the Standards and the Evidence Guide www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  20. 3.5 The accreditation report Teacher demonstrating ALL of the Standards at Professional Competence An accreditation report completed using NSWIT template Careful selection of evidence that relates to the completed report Evidence to be annotated Report and evidence forwarded to TAA www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au

  21. 3.7 The accreditation decision Teacher Accreditation Authority considers the Accreditation Report and supporting evidence TAA finalises accreditation decision and signs report Report and annotated evidence are forwarded to NSWIT (systemic requirements) Reports are reviewed by an External Assessor to ensure quality and consistency www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au
