Under Review • Social work under the spot light - three external and two internal reviews • JPR, DH delivery body reviews and SW Taskforce • Internal Regulatory Review Project – Rules, Regulatory models, Quality Assurance • Review of systems, one stop shop to programmes to deliver greater benefits to programmes

  3. Issues • We will lose the progress made unless we take collective action as a sector to improve social work education • Dip in recruitment to social work education • Lowering of standards – students passing when they shouldn’t • Realistic expectations of NQSW in their first job

  4. Challenges • Influence Taskforce about what is good and what needs to change • Evidence based policy • Ideas that will work – quick wins and longer term vision • Greater involvement of employers – formal partnerships • Increased robustness in assessment systems to ensure improvement in audit and QA of assessment decisions

  5. Challenges and ideas • New supply model for the workforce needed • Quality drivers linked to funding? • Grading of programmes linked to improvement? • Going for glory - a new Royal College for Social Work?
