  2. ROTE • Producing the standard list of counting words (one, two, three…)

  3. RATIONAL COUNTING • Assigning one number word for each item (one-to-one correspondence) • Last number represents the number of items • Understanding that the size of the objects does not matter, arrangement of them does not matter • The order or sequence or direction does not matter

  4. COUNTING ALL • Counting all objects in a group, regardless of arrangement, starting with one and ending with the total number in the group.

  5. COUNTING ON • Being able to recognize a group as representing a number and continuing on to count an additional group. Ex.) * * * * * * * * * • Student would recognize 5 in the first group and would say “six, seven, eight, nine”
