  2. Your Goal…. Reconcile public and user perceptions, as well as internally and externally imposed expectations with the reality of Justice Information Sharing in your State

  3. Perceptions Created by… • Popular entertainment media and, to a lesser extent, news media • project managers who overstate progress or capacity • uninformed policy makers relying on one of the above

  4. Perceptions • It is difficult to justify funding for a capacity that is commonly believed to already exist. • It is also difficult to adjust perceptions without reflecting negatively on the project

  5. Perceptions • Targeted public information strategy • Media • Users • Policy makers • General public • Consistent talking points for key policy makers

  6. Expectations Stating the obvious….. for emphasis Performance measures should be agreed upon in advance

  7. Expectations • Don’t change the rules in the middle of the game • Don’t overreach on your goals • Communicate expectations to project team

  8. Expectations Performance expectations and measures will vary depending on funding strategy

  15. Reality • Justice Information Sharing Systems are complex and difficult to build • The politics of information sharing can be as challenging as the technology • Technology will advance more rapidly than implementation
