  12. Boss of the Plains Generalization Chart After reading each page, use Practice Book p. 147 to compile Generalizations of the selection. At the end of the story use the information you have gathered to complete the story sequence on the back of your sheet. Make sure you are listing accurate details from the selection used to make generalizations. When finished go back and reread this week’s selection in order to improve reading fluency.

When you're finished begin thinking about the following questions. 1. Who is the main character in the story? 3. How are the characters lives changed by moving to the new place 4. Have you ever felt like the main character did in the story when they moved to a new place? 2. Where do the characters go in the story?

  27. Extreme Partner Reading First Step: Read the story summary quietly to yourself. If you finish before time is up, read through it again. Second Step: Now that you have read through the story summary, go through it again using hand gestures as you read. If you finish before time is up, read through it again with gestures. Third Step: Turn to your partner and take turns reading the summary with lots of expression. Fourth Step: With your partner, take turns reading with passage with lots of expression and gestures. Last Step: Using your best expression, ask your partner three questions about what you have read. When you are asked, be sure to answer with intense expressions.

  31. Cowboy Songs • With your partner, read pages 242-245 from your text using the skills mentions in the yellow column on the left of page 242. When you are finished discuss these questions with your partner and write your answers in complete sentences on a piece of lined paper.. 1. What is happening as “Get Along Little Doggies” is being sung? 4. What about these songs reminds you of John Stetson’s travels in Boss of the Plains? 3. How might these songs have helped cowboys with their work? 2. What generalization can you make from these songs about a cowboys relationship to the land? 5. Compare and Contrast the songs cowboys sang with the songs you sang for the same reasons?
