What is it?

A SharePoint feature that enables configuring uploaded file size limits and allowed file types in a list/library level.

Why did we build it?

SharePoint 2007/2010 enables configuring max uploaded file size and blocked file types only at the Web application level.

Why did we build it?

  • As a result of this SharePoint limitation:

  • You cannot configure a list or library to allow only specific types of uploaded files/attachments.

  • You cannot configure a list or library to prevent users from uploading files larger than a required maximum size.

Why did we build it?

To provide an answer to various users’ needs, you have no other choice but to allow everyone upload all requested file types, up to the maximum allowed file size (defined globally for everyone).

  • Much harder to enforce your governance policies

  • Waste of server HD resources
