  1. SharePoint File Controller Feature Product Overview Nimrod GevaProduct Group Manager, KWizCom nimrod@kwizcom.com

  2. What is it? A SharePoint feature that enables configuring uploaded file size limits and allowed file types in a list/library level.

  3. Why did we build it? SharePoint 2007/2010 enables configuring max uploaded file size and blocked file types only at the Web application level.

  4. Why did we build it? • As a result of this SharePoint limitation: • You cannot configure a list or library to allow only specific types of uploaded files/attachments. • You cannot configure a list or library to prevent users from uploading files larger than a required maximum size.

  5. Why did we build it? To provide an answer to various users’ needs, you have no other choice but to allow everyone upload all requested file types, up to the maximum allowed file size (defined globally for everyone). • Much harder to enforce your governance policies • Waste of server HD resources

  6. Configuring max allowed file attachment size and allowed file types in a Tasks list, by using the SharePoint File Controller Feature Demo

  7. This is a Tasks list. As an administrator, I wish to limit the allowed file attachment size to 2 MB, and block Zip files. Demo

  8. At the List Settings page, click the “File types and size limit settings” link Demo

  9. Demo

  10. You can configure the list, or let the list inherit max file size and allowed file types definitions from a content type Demo

  11. You can define allowed or blocked file types Add the allowed/blocked file extensions Demo

  12. You can define allowed or blocked file types Add the allowed/blocked file extensions Demo

  13. Fill-out the max allowed file size for this list. Demo

  14. End-user experience(trying to attach files that do not comply with the configured limitations) Demo

  15. Adding a new task item Demo

  16. I filled-out the item’s fields and attached a zip file. When I click the “Save” button… Demo

  17. I get an error message, letting me know that the “zip” file extension is not allowed. End-users can no longer upload irrelevant file types and huge files to various lists and libraries! Demo

  18. Summary • Easily implement your company’s governance policy and gain control over your SharePoint implementation • Save your SharePoint server’s resources, and your company’s money

  19. We value your feedback! Does this solution answer your needs? Need other/additional features? Tell us what you think!
