  1. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Maximizing Sub-Varsity Teams for Maximum Player Development

  2. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Traditionally a 10-12 school. This Senior class will be our first Freshmen class. “Freshmen House”

  3. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us 22 years ago we had 25 upperclassmen We are anticipating 80+ next year

  4. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Our number of participants continue to grow Finished with 162 players last season.

  5. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us All starts with your ATTITUDE

  6. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us The young guys are either your foundation or the guys who are “slowing us down”

  7. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us OUR CULTURE IS BUILT AROUND THREE KEY VALUES.

  8. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us 1. MENTORSHIP

  9. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us • MENTORSHIP • “GIVING BACK”

  10. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us • MENTORSHIP • “GIVING BACK” • PROVIDING MAXIMUM OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS.

  11. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us • MENTORSHIP refers to a developmental relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps a less experienced or knowledgeable person.

  12. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us • MENTORSHIP we put it on our older guys to teach, coach and lead our younger guys.

  13. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us 2. GIVING BACK

  14. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us • GIVING BACK refers to our older guys “giving it all away” to the younger guys. Leaving a Legacy. Showing the right way that will be carried forward.

  15. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us 2. GIVING BACK We are always telling our Seniors how much they need the Juniors and they need to bring them along. Build them up.

  16. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us • GIVING BACK We give the same message to the Juniors about the Sophomores and to the Sophomores about the Frosh. We tell each class that “these guys will be Juniors when you are Seniors. You are going to need these guys”

  17. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us OPPOSITE OF INITIATION

  18. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us OPPOSITE OF A “PECKING ORDER”

  19. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us OPPOSITE OF A “CLASS OR CASTE SYSTEM”

  20. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us 3. PROVIDING MAXIMUM OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS

  21. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us 3. PROVIDING MAXIMUM OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS refers to equity in coaching, reps, games, scheduling and equipment.

  22. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Some Specfics on Mentorship and “Giving Back”

  23. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football 5 Days right after Spring Practice

  24. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football We have 160+ kids participate We are in helmets and shorts the first 3 days.

  25. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football It is Fast paced 70 minutes. When we go to team we have them in groups of Seniors/Frosh and Juniors/Sophs

  26. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football The older guys know the stuff and move quickly….The younger guys are slower and lost or unsure.

  27. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football We run the same team scripts, we might have a Senior center snapping to a Frosh QB handing off to a Senior HB etc.

  28. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football We do this for the first 3 days when there is no contact.

  29. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football If we just sent the Frosh over by themselves into a couple of teams they couldn’t even line up right let alone get the snap off and run a play.

  30. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football This way we get the young guys moving quickly, the older guys are constantly coaching them and building them up.

  31. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football We all know how well we learn something when we teach it. We become Experts!

  32. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football The same occurs with the Junior and Sophomore groups.

  33. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Spring Football The result is that after the first 3 days of installation we have more guys doing more stuff right at a faster pace than ever.

  34. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Team Camp First week of summer. We take 90-120 kids to team camp. We divide into the smallest possible teams. 13 to 16 guys maximum on a team.

  35. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Team Camp It is their money and we tell them we want them to get their money’s worth. The only thing worse than not playing is paying money and not playing.

  36. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Team Camp The team scrimmages start on the 2nd day and continue through the morning of the 4th day. Each team will get nearly 200 plays in that time.

  37. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Team Camp They are sore and beat up but they get their money’s worth and they get better.

  38. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Team Camp Coaches are evenly divided with many of the “varsity” coaches taking the sub varsity teams for the duration of the camp.

  39. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us BFS Lifting Camp, 1 day We teach it, the Seniors are divided among the groups and “reteach” and lead the sessions.

  40. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Mustang Mini Camp Mid-July, similar to our Spring Ball, non-contact Sr/Fr and Jr/So teams. Flag football tournament is even #’s of each grade. It is just kids having fun!

  41. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Fall Camp First 3 days same team groupings as Spring ball. Once again, after the first 3 days of installation we have more guys doing more stuff right at a faster pace than ever.

  42. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us How do you make a group of 170 young men and 16 coaches fit into a team structure?

  43. Denver Glazier 2012www.natronafootball.us Out of necessity we stumbled onto a good idea. We call it SIXTEEN

  44. Mustang Footballwww.natronafootball.us SIXTEEN’S 16 COACHES 8 ON EACH SIDELINE 10,20,30,40 40,30,20,10 10,20,30,40 40,30,20,10

  45. Mustang Footballwww.natronafootball.us 16 GROUPS 10+ PLAYERS PER COACH OF VARIOUS GRADES

  46. Mustang Footballwww.natronafootball.us 16 GROUPS STAY TOGETHER FOR FOUR YEARS

  47. Mustang Footballwww.natronafootball.us 16 GROUPS GRADUATE THE SENIORS OUT

  48. Mustang Footballwww.natronafootball.us 16 GROUPS COACH MAINTAINS CONTACT ONCE THEY GRADUATE (text message)

  49. Mustang Footballwww.natronafootball.us 16 GROUPS WE MAKE A BIG GROUP (160 TO 180) INTO SMALL GROUPS (10 TO 12)

  50. Mustang Footballwww.natronafootball.us 16 GROUPS First thing that happens in Practice is the “Winners Manual” with their “16 Group” It is a chance to do policy, procedure and Character Education.
