  2. A Check the door to determine swing; the number, type, and location of locking devices; and the type of door frame and hinges.

  3. B Create a gap between the door and jamb by driving the adz or fork end of the Halligan tool between the door and frame 6 inches above or below the lock. JPR 17-2B

  4. C On tight doors, the gap may be started with the fork end. JPR 17-2C

  5. D If door is tight, work tool up and down to open up gap. JPR 17-2D

  6. E Set the tool by driving the adz or fork end past the door around the doorstop. JPR 17-2E

  7. F This inside view shows how the adz is set. JPR 17-2F

  8. G Force the door by pulling the tool away from the door. JPR 17-2G
