  23. Columba College was established in 1915 by the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand. We are a school with History and Traditions Gratia et Disciplina Bona

  25. Columba College is one of New Zealand leading academic schools for girls High results have been consistent over many years. Pass-rates that are over 90% in NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 indicate a very high level of success for the whole cohort. Excellent Scholarship results have also been consistent over many years.

  26. Columba College NCEA Results 2012 % of Overall Excellence and Merit Endorsements Students achieving University Entrance Scholarship Grades * Highest number of Scholarship Grades in Otago. In 2009 and 2010, second highest. In 2011 equal highest. o In 2010 there were 53 girls in Year 13 (a smaller number than usual). Proportionally, the percentage of Scholarship grades on a “head-count” basis for 2010 was very pleasing.

  28. Curriculum Breadth and Depth Year Nine Students take a core programme of: • English 4 periods a week • Mathematics 4 periods a week • Science 4 periods a week • Social Studies 3 periods a week • Religious Studies 1 period a week • Physical Education and Swimming 2 periods a week

  29. Year Nine In addition, each student chooses three option subjects from the current list. Option subjects are studied for a full year. • Art • Chinese (Mandarin) • Economics • French • German • Music 9 periods a week (3 periods for each option subject)Total: 31 periods in the week Note: Digital Technology becomes an option subject in Year 10

Year Nine All students also study Units or Modules which comprise: • Humanities Drama Global Citizenship Health Music • Technology Digital Technology Materials Technology Robotics Technology 4 periods a week in total (each Unit or Module is studied for 2 periods a week for a third of the year)
