  3. Adding Layers • Save images as .XCF to preserve layers • Create new layer • Larger than previous layer  adjust canvas size and align • Linking layers • Show/hide layers

  4. Adding Text • Text tool • Drop shadow • Filters  Light and Shadow  Drop Shadow • Positive values  right and down • Negative values  left and up

Drawing Lines and Curves • Use new layer for each drawing element • Pencil tool  sharp-edged lines • Brush tool  fuzzy-edged lines • Airbrush tool  time sensitive • Ink pen tool  emulates fountain pen • Straight line  • Click for beginning of line • Hold down Shift key • Click for end of line

  6. Eraser Tool • Layer has alpha channel  transparent; if not  background color • Uses current brush selection

  7. Rectangles, Circle and Other Shapes • Make selection (rectangle, eclipse, lasso) • Edit  Stroke Selection • Edit  Fill With ….. • Bucket fill  fills small areas • Blend tool  gradients

  8. Transparency • Layer  Transparency  Add Alpha Channel • Use selection tool • Edit  clear
