Author of the Declaration of Independence • 3rd President of the United States (1801-1809) • Served in Virginia’s republican party • Held position on Continental Congress • Elected Governor • Served on Virginia’s legislature • Created a bill on Religious Freedom • Came up with the idea of the Ordinance of 1787 • Took a whirl at being Secretary of State • Helped expand our great country by buying Louisiana Thomas Jefferson April 14, 1743- July 4, 1826

American Patriot • Leadership of The Green Mountain Boys at the siege of Fort Ticonderoga • Locked in prison for brave acts against British • Took part in recognizing Vermont as a state by communication with England • Highly known “simple” man in Vermont • No college education • Deist and philosopher • Worked along side Benedict Arnold • Denied offer to be a spy for the British in the Colonies • High political status in north Ethan Allen January 21, 1738- February 12, 1789
