What VOAD Is • VOAD is a partnership of organizations with a disaster role as a part of their overall mission: • Faith-Based Organizations • Social and Human Service Organizations • Emergency Communications Organizations • Donations Management Organizations • Animal Rescue/Disaster Care Organizations • Public Safety and Emergency Management partners • Corporate and business partners

  5. What VOAD Is • National VOAD • State VOADs (separate entities affiliated with National VOAD through MOU’s) • Local VOADs (separate entities usually – but not always - affiliated with the State VOAD)

What VOAD Is • VOADs – national, state and local - meet on a regular basis to: • share news about member activities • discuss common concerns • identify gaps in services • minimize unnecessary duplication of services • promote better use of available resources • manage disasters more efficiently & effectively

  12. What VOAD Is Not! • Not a place to send cash or in-kind donations to: • All donations should be sent to a voluntary agency of the donor’s choice • Local relief funds must be managed by agencies or groups other than VOAD.

  20. How Do You Contact VOAD? Options: 1. Contact your local agencies first. - American Red Cross - The Salvation Army - Local VOAD? ? Are they listed in YOUR Emergency Plan? ? Have you been in contact with them before? ? Have you exercised with them before? 2. State VOAD through State EMA or through your local VOAD agency contacts.

Who Is VOAD?Partnerships VOAD is a PARTNERSHIP between the individual voluntary agencies AND with Public Safety Work with voluntary agencies in advance Consider starting a local VOAD Include voluntary agencies in training exercises Use voluntary agencies in short-term emergencies During disasters, join VOAD on conference calls Use VOAD ESF Aid in your EOP planning Provide VOAD or primary voluntary agencies with a seat in the local Emergency Operations Center ?
