  1. 4 MISTAKES TO AVOID WHILE GIVING FEEDBACK As a business owner, it is your duty to ensure that the people working for you are performing at their best. And one way to do so is by giving them feedback on their work. But sadly, this is where most business owners or managers totally mess up, which in many cases, leads to their employees quitting altogether. Today I will share with you what are the 4 critical mistakes you should avoid while giving feedback to your employees. 1.Only pointing out what they did wrong: Now, most often, the person giving feedback makes the classic mistake of only pointing out things that they did wrong at work. Instead of keeping the whole feedback process balanced and telling the other person what are the things they did right and what are the things that can be improved, they only go on and on about what they did wrong. Please remember, the whole agenda of giving feedback is to let them know where they need improvement and what they can do to make sure they do not repeat the same things again. But if you constantly keep pointing out their flaws and mistakes, it will soon turn into criticism. So as a business owner, it is extremely crucial that you keep a balance when giving feedback. Highlight the good things they have done, highlight the things they got wrong, and help them know what they can do better to improve themselves. 2.Withholding judgements: Many business owners are guilty of getting too judgmental with their employees in the name of feedback. They may retort to making statements which are extremely unsupportive and discouraging for the other people.

  2. What you are effectively doing is completely destroying their morale and giving them an impression that you see them as worthless and stupid. Remember, the objective of giving them a feedback is to bring out the best in them and help them improve. You have to let go of all judgements and inhibitions that you might hold against this person and give them constructive feedback that will make them feel supported, so that they realize that you are genuinely trying to help them. 3.Not giving clarity: The ground rule of giving feedback is you have to be extremely specific. Meaning, it should pin point the exact things that your employees got wrong, and provide a solution so they do not repeat the same mistakes again. So if your feedback is only focused on the problems, your feedback is only focused on putting them down and criticizing them, and not being clear on what should they do in order to not repeat the same mistakes again, then you have not given a clear feedback. So you have to be very specific on guiding the team member on what they need to do in order for them to avoid doing the same things again. 4.Letting your emotions overcome your senses: Lots of times, business owners, or the HR staff in their department, lose their composure and get extremely stressed, or extremely annoyed while giving feedback to employees. Instead of creating an atmosphere of understanding and mutual respect, they behave in a way that the other person perceives as hostile and uncalled for. This creates a tense situation that only leads to anger and resentment at both ends instead of solving problems. On the contrary, the opposite is also true. Business owners or managers are hesitant to give honest feedback because of either personal bonding, or a soft corner for that other person. Please remember, you are trying to bring out the best in that person that will in turn benefit him/her as well as your business. And as such, you

  3. cannot let your emotions get in the way of doing your job. Remember this, when emotions go up, intelligence comes down. So these are the 4 critical mistakes to avoid while giving honest feedback to your employees.
