  2. Key Illinois CVO Projects • Rest Area Truck Parking project • Queue Detection System at Interstate Ramps • E-Clearance at Weigh Stations • CVISN / EOSS • Oversize/Overweight permit automation • VACIS Cargo Inspection System

  3. GCM CVO Technologies Rest Area Truck Parking

Rest Area Truck Parking • Pilot project - 2 sites instrumented • Addresses problem of truck parking at rest areas • Provides truckers with advance notification of parking availability (Input/Output Vehicle Counter Classifiers + Algorithm) • Solution similar to parking garage systems • Messages delivered via panel signs with flashers : (“Rest Area Full When Flashing”)

  6. Queue Detection at Interstate Ramps • Addresses issue of stopped vehicles at ramp junctions to weigh stations • Technology includes detectors and cameras • Inspection personnel can remotely view problem area and flush ramp when needed

  8. Electronic Clearance at Weigh Stations • Illinois has PrePass installed at all weigh stations (20+) • Technology includes mainline Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) • Minimizes stops for carriers who pre-qualify with good track records

CVISN in Illinois • Components include: • Electronic Credentialing • Participation in Clearinghouses • Exchange of Safety Information • Roadside Screening • Some deployments completed - not yet available at all weigh stations • Enforcement information will be available through a secured website

  12. Automated Permit Process • Deals with Oversize and Overweight permits • Simplifies permit application process for routine permits • ~60% to 70% of permits now issued via the Internet

  14. VACIS System • VACIS = Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System • Mobile 3-D Gamma Ray X-ray images (Cobalt 60 source) • 2 sites in Illinois (1 in Chicago, 1 Downstate) • Unit is mobile • Used by State Police and Customs
